The Summer Games | Watch Party Ideas

The time to watch the big international summer games is finally here!!  Did you know the games consist of 33 competitions and 339 events held across 42 venues? Whether you love to watch the traditional equestrian races, the diving, and track & field, or if you’re interested in the new competitions for karate, skateboarding or surfing, we have you covered when it comes to rooting for your favorite athletes in the style and spirit of competition! 

First, watch in style.  The events start July 21st and run through Sunday August 8th.  Why not pull out the crepe paper, mini flags, even balloons to decorate the den!  We also suggest putting a few dry erase boards (post it’s and pens will do trick too!)  on the coffee table so you can play “judge” at home! For example, when gymnastics or diving comes on, everyone watching can rate each routine and give a score.  At the end of the set, everyone holds their scores up at the same time. Discuss your rating during commercial breaks! 

Next snack like an athlete.  The games will be on at all hours of the day and night, so if you get hungry we’ve got five recipes that are sure to please you and a crowd!

  1. Savory Veggie Muffins – Get a nice balance of protein, fat and carbohydrates to help re-fuel muscles!
  2. Five – Star Vegan Cheese Spread – Such a rich and creamy source of muscle building protein we know you will give this a perfect (10)!
  3. Taco Roll Ups – We love these and athletes love these because they’re packed with antioxidants and flavor!Plus, they are easy to eat on the couch without a mess!
  4. Air Fried Sweet Frites – Athletes need carbs to fuel their game!Sweet potatoes are an ideal complex carb to include to help restore glycogen stores to pull from to win the race!These are super tasty and very easy to make in the air fryer!
  5. Slow Cooker “Cheesy” Chicken Chili Nachos – Who watches sports without nachos?This version eliminates saturated fats that increase inflammation by replacing traditional cheese sauce with our special combination of butternut squash and nutritional yeast!Cheese and delicious!

And the best part about our snacks is that they won’t slow you down! Stay active during commercials by engaging in mini contests of your own.  Sit ups anyone?  Jumping jacks maybe?  When commercial break appears have everyone hop off the couch to see how many they can get done before the games come back on!

If you happen to be watching outdoors it may also be fun to set up relay races or a T-ball game in the yard!    However you plan to enjoy the summer games, we hope you have fun and share the spirit that comes only once every four years by building lasting memories with your family.
