Nutrition- One Bite at a Time
Taking steps towards improving ones diet can take many shapes and sizes. For some, improvement is switching from drinking fruit flavored soda to 100% fruit juice. For others it’s a switch from eating chips that are baked instead of fried. Whether you interested in improving your own diet, or improving nutrition for your spouse, child or family member we have some suggestions for you towards better nutrition both in and out of the kitchen!
- Re – organize your pantry. Put healthy snacks like applesauce pouches or dried fruit in clear bins at eye level to be sure kids (and adults) can see and grab them easily!
- Change your plates! Using smaller plates is a subtle way to reduce how much you eat!
- Visit a farm or outdoor market. As weather gets nicer it’s a fun group activity that teaches where fruits, veggies, even eggs and meat come from!
- Avoid falling victim to impulse buys at the grocery store, stick to your list and shop online instead. Online shopping is a great way to stick to your list and keep fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grain snacks on hand. From Amazon Fresh to Instacart there are so many to choose from!
- Trade up your drink! If you usually drink soda, switch to 100% fruit juice. If you drink coffee with all the fixings, try using a sugar free syrup or banana milk to avoid unwanted calories!
- Sample fruit or vegetables you’ve never tried before! Position it as a game and try one new item every week. Each family member can be a judge in the taste test panel.
- Replace family ice cream time with a frozen, blended banana. They’re both creamy and sweet!
