Relaxation for children – time out during the day

Relaxation for children – time out during the day

Switching off and enjoying life – we are not the only ones who need time out during the day, our little ones also benefit from some downtime. After all, continuous stress without periods of rest and relaxation can definitely have a detrimental effect on our health. And between school, homework and leisure activities, life really can be quite stressful for children.

But what does relaxation for children actually mean? The answer to this depends very much on the individual of course – while some children love to read books, others enjoy being out in the fresh air. You therefore need to listen to what your little ones need and decide accordingly – without any pressure or coercion. See our tips for shared family moments and relaxed kids.

Carefree painting

Using coloured pencils or watercolours, drawing and painting are very relaxing activities, which also foster concentration, motor skills and creativity. After a hectic day in kindergarten or at school, painting offers the perfect solution for switching off and forgetting the world. A suitable drink for budding artists – a colourful smoothie.

Discover books

Exciting stories and imaginative pictures entice even the very young into the world of literature. If mum or dad read aloud, children experience feelings of trust and security and can relax. And something to nibble on is of course always a good idea – how about a freshly peeled orange?

Free dance and music making

Relaxation for children doesn’t always have to mean a quiet activity. Many little rascals love to let off steam with music. They can dance to their heart’s content with cheerful, upbeat children’s songs. Drums, maracas and xylophones add to the musical experience. Afterwards, a homemade fruity energy bar is a healthy option to recharge the batteries.

Out and about in nature

Breathe! The calming power of nature is something very special. Wandering through the forest, jumping into puddles or romping through fields – stress is soon forgotten in the open air. And if you want to make a longer excursion out of it, simply put together a few snacks for the whole family.

Shared kitchen fun

Cooking is a wonderful way for many adults to switch off, but children too can find the kitchen very relaxing. They can help to prepare delicious meals, such as spicy casseroles, for all the family – and starting the evening at the cooker is also much nicer than in front of the television, right?

Peace and quiet in the cuddle cave

If the kids have been very active during the day, they often want to spend time with mum or dad. A cosy cuddle cave is easy to build with blankets or bedsheets. It’s a snug place where the little ones can offload all their cares. Together with a torch, fruit sandwiches can also be brought in as ‘cave provisions’.

Have fun taking a breather!
