Hurricanes Eta and Iota, hit back-to-back in November, causing widespread destruction across Central America and significantly to communities in Honduras and Guatemala - many that support our farms and workers.
Flooded towns have created need for food and potable water. Many people have lost their livelihoods, their possessions, their crops. Homes are in need of repair and clothes, supplies and appliances in need of replacement.
WHAT CAN I DO?
Many of you have asked what you can do to help, so we are setting up this PayPal fundraising effort to assist those in need. We, as Dole employees and partners—no matter how far physically from Honduras and Guatemala— are closely associated to these communities through the banana industry, so it makes sense for us to give back.
The funds collected through this initiative will be used to purchase essential food items. Every $25 will purchase a food basket containing red beans, rice, corn flour, vegetable oil and powdered milk, able to feed a family of five for a month.
Local Dole volunteers will distribute the food baskets in the communities surrounding our operations. In other areas of the country, we will be working with relief organizations CEPUDO and the Cortés Chamber of Commerce that have already established shelters and have the logistics in place to reach the affected communities—ensuring that your contribution gets to the people that need it.
100% of your donations will be used exclusively on purchasing food for the families in need. Additional costs associated with transportation, packing materials, and distribution, will be absorbed by Dole.
Through our global efforts we hope to donate 10,000 baskets and Dole will be funding the first 5,000.
Thank you for your generous contribution.
