Water Management

Water is life

Water is life – that's why we at Dole want to handle this most-valuable asset with care. Our goal: 100% optimized water management on all farms managed by Dole and for all packing facilities by 2025. A challenging project? Definitely! But Dole has long been working to find more sustainable ways to grow fruits and vegetables. And for us, sustainability also means continuous improvement. Fortunately, our research and innovation teams are actively supporting our divisions. Our goal of reducing water consumption on our farms and in our packing and processing facilities is an important part of this commitment.

This is how it can work: With drip irrigation, a very precise, uniform and efficient irrigation technology where plants get exactly the amount of water and fertilizer they need for optimal growth – no less, but no more either. This saves 25% more water compared to other methods.

There are also water recycling systems. A banana packaging plant with a water recycling system uses up to 80% less water than a plant without such a system. Last but not least, water conservation in agriculture can also be achieved with a great deal of innovative spirit. The advances in water management thus far motivate us to continue on our path – The Dole Way.
