Homemade fruit tea

As a new year begins, we can help you to really get warmed up. The fruity warmth of our homemade fruit tea, made from dried fruit and fresh citrus fruits, will help you to survive the cold season. The outer peel of citrus fruits contains many fruit-specific essential oils that release a natural aroma. The scented oils are responsible not only for the characteristically delicious smell of the fruit, they also lend a refreshing note to freshly brewed tea. Dried fruits contain the fructose of the fruit in concentrated form, which makes for a particularly intense flavour and adds a pleasant sweetness to your homemade fruit tea. By the way, other fresh fruit, such as pineapple, mango, apples, pears or strawberries can be easily dried in the oven and afterwards brewed as tea.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Pre-heat the oven to around 120 °C.
  2. Peel the orange and lemon zest thinly using a vegetable peeler and chop into equal-sized pieces. Peel the ginger and chop into thin slices.
  3. Spread out the orange zest, lemon zest and ginger on a baking sheet lined with baking paper and dry in the pre-heated oven. It’s best to leave the oven door open so that the moisture can evaporate. Turn the ingredients occasionally while they dry. The fruit and ginger take approximately 45 minutes to dry.
  4. Allow the citrus zests and ginger to cool. Chop the dried fruit into pieces and mix through the citrus zests and ginger. Store in a cool and dry place.
  5. To make one cup of tea, steep two teaspoons of the mix in hot water for 3 to 5 minutes. Then remove the ingredients and enjoy your homemade tea.
