Dole bananas in Northern Europe now with "home compostable" stickers
Our Dole bananas now feature "home compostable" stickers. What does that entail? The idea is based on the Sinclair Ecolabel HOME™ which has been specifically designed for fresh products. The innovative labels are made of plastic-free and partially bio-based materials that make them ideal for home composting. In this way we can offer a simple and environmentally friendly way to enjoy our bananas and simultaneously foster sustainability.The new Dole banana stickers stand for supreme quality. They consist of three layers: the face stock material, adhesive and inks. The labels comply with international standards for compostable products, having been certified by various organisations. That ensures they have no detrimental effect on our environment.
What does “compostable” actually mean?
Compostable products are biodegradable. They can decompose fully and safely in a suitable composting facility or on a heap at home, helping to create a nutrient-rich resource for your garden. Biodegradable products disintegrate naturally or disappear completely.
Water Management
Water is life - that's why we at Dole want to handle this most-valuable asset with care. Our goal: 100% optimized water management on all farms managed by Dole and for all packaging plants by 2025. A challenging project? Definitely! But Dole has long been working to find more sustainable ways to grow fruits and vegetables. And for us, sustainability also means continuous improvement. Fortunately, our research and innovation teams are actively supporting our divisions. Our goal of reducing water consumption on our farms and in our packaging and processing facilities is an important part of this commitment.
Great Climate
We have only one earth and climate protection concerns us all. We at Dole endeavor to make a real and concrete contribution to the fight against climate change, because undoubtedly it is a reality. There is no question that the food and agricultural industries can and must work for a better climate. The big goal for us is: net zero CO2 emissions at farm level in the Dole-led operations by 2030.
