Bananas are grown between the mountains and the sea. Locals do not eat much our cavendish bananas, they prefer plantains as a side dish, or Manzanos.

La Guajira
At the norther tip of Colombia, La Guajira is only a couple of hours away from the Venezuelan border. The banana production area has been developed more recently than other growing regions in the country due to the increasing demand for organic bananas.
Climate
Very close to the coast but mostly dry, the weather in La Guajira is very favorable to grow organic bananas because of the low pressure of pest and diseases. The high winds in the area can occasionally cause damage to the plantations.
