How do bananas end up in the crate?

The boxes are assembled by hand …
… and transported by conveyor belt to the packing area.
The conveyor belt is made of rollers and is operated manually.
The filled boxes are lifted on to wooden pallets and carefully stacked.
The filled boxes are stacked by hand on the wooden pallets.
To stabilise the stacked boxes, they are reinforced by recycled plastic corners. This requires a lot of experience.
The pallets are then slid into the container.

How do bananas end up in the crate?

The bananas must be packed carefully to make sure the fragile skins are not damaged during the long trip across the Atlantic. For this reason they are placed in the boxes in a specific order. The banana boxes are assembled by hand and have air holes to allow the fruit to ripen once it reaches its destination. They also have plastic corners to make them more stable when they are stacked on the pallets. Then they are taken by truck to the port.
