How do bananas end up in the crate?
The bananas must be packed carefully to make sure the fragile skins are not damaged during the long trip across the Atlantic. For this reason they are placed in the boxes in a specific order. The banana boxes are assembled by hand and have air holes to allow the fruit to ripen once it reaches its destination. They also have plastic corners to make them more stable when they are stacked on the pallets. Then they are taken by truck to the port.
This is the end of the tour.
But there’s plenty more to discover in the world of Dole. We hope you’ve been inspired by our passion for fruit.
