Preheat oven to 350 F.
1/4 cup butter or margarine8 whole graham crackers (approx.)
Melt 1/4 cup butter and put into a 13 x 9-inch pan, tip to coat. Cover bottom of pan with a single layer of whole graham crackers (they may be cut with a serrated knife, if necessary).
6 bananas, divided1/2 cup melted butter4 medium eggs2 cups sugar2 tsp. vanilla extract1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour3/4 cup baking cocoa1 tsp. baking powder1 cup chopped walnuts
Mash bananas to make 1 cup, set aside. Thinly slice remaining bananas and arrange on graham crackers. Add to the mashed banana, 1/2 cup melted butter, eggs, sugar and vanilla. Sift in flour, cocoa and baking powder. Stir just to blend. Pour carefully into prepared pan. If desired, sprinkle with walnuts.
Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until set in center. Cool, cut into squares or bars.
