1930
The start of the Great Depression. During difficult times for James Dole's company, he keeps his eye on quality for consumers and employees. He writes, "The company would enter into no merger except upon terms conclusively satisfactory to the stockholders, and which would carry the promise of satisfactory future dealings to distributors, the consuming public and the company's own employees." 1932
Castle & Cooke acquires ownership of 21% of the Hawaiian Pineapple Company.

1933
Recognizing the popularity and significance of quality in James Dole's name, the company first stamps "DOLE" on cans of pineapple and pineapple juice.

1935
James Dole is named chairman of the board of the pineapple company.

1946
Castle & Cooke organizes the Hawaiian Equipment Company.

1946
One of the largest sugar strikes in Hawaiian history is organized by the International Longshoremen's and Warehousemen's Union (ILWU).

1948
Castle & Cooke enters the tuna packing business by purchasing 41% of the stock and a few years later 97% of the stock of Hawaiian Tuna Packers.
 
1948
Castle & Cooke organizes the Royal Hawaiian Macadamia Nut Company.

1956
Castle & Cooke exchanges ownership in Hawaiian Tuna Packers for 12% interest in Columbia River Packers Association, producers of Bumble Bee® Seafood.

1958
Castle & Cooke increases their ownership of the Columbia River Packers Association to 30%.

1958
Castle & Cooke merges with Helemano Company, Ltd., a holding company organized in 1948.

1959
Hawaii receives Statehood as the 50th state of the Union.

1961
Dole and Columbia River Packers merge with Castle & Cooke. Because the DOLE® brand was so well known and signified high quality with consumers, Dole products retain their name and CRPA became Bumble Bee Seafood, Inc.
 
1961
Oceanic Properties is formed to manage and develop Castle & Cooke's land holdings.

1963
Dole Philippines, the pineapple growing operations in the Philippines, is organized under the name Dolefil.

1964
Castle & Cooke purchases 55% interest in Standard Fruit & Steamship Company, New Orleans, entering the banana business.

1966
Castle & Cooke acquires the Ames Mercantile Company (later renamed Castle & Cooke Mercantile Corporation).

1967
Standard Fruit establishes Stanfilco to produce bananas in Southern Mindanao, Philippines for Japan.

1968
Castle & Cooke acquires 100% of Standard Fruit, the second largest producer and importer of bananas.
 
1969
Castle & Cooke acquires a major Los Angeles home-building company, Barclay Hollander Curci, Inc.
