Brilliant Berries

When you are walking through the fresh produce aisle at your local grocery store, it might be helpful to have a few tried-and-true tips up your sleeve to ensure that the delicious DOLE® Berries you bring home to your family (or keep all to yourself!) are as fresh and mouthwatering as possible!

If you’re interested in picking out the best tasting berries, and keeping them fresh for as long as possible then this is the place for you!

  • Blackberry:   First, let’s examine the rich and flavorful DOLE® blackberry! Blackberries should be firm and plump, with no hull attached! If the hull is still connected to the blackberry, it may mean that the berry was picked too early. The result? A too-tart berry! To ensure your blackberries stay fresh, store them in the fridge for no more than one to two days after purchase, and wash just before using!
  • Blueberry:   The perfect DOLE® blueberry should be firm and deep blue, and it should also have a silvery frost covering it. The silvery sometimes powdery, sometimes waxy substance is known as the bloom! A good bloom, and a deep blue coloring are a great indicator of perfect berry maturity! Blueberries will keep in a fridge for up to five days. Make sure you wash them before serving!
  • Raspberry:   The ever decadent DOLE® raspberry should be firm, and plump. Try to keep in mind raspberries can be fragile! Treat them with care, and eat them as soon as possible after purchasing to ensure they retain their amazing taste! Remember to gently rinse your raspberries before you enjoy them!
  • Strawberry:   You’re in for a quite a treat with DOLE® fresh strawberries! A few things to keep in mind for a truly succulent strawberry selection; your strawberry should be red, shiny, firm, and fragrant, and each berry should also have a fresh looking green cap! You can keep strawberries in the fridge for a day or two. Strawberries should not be cleaned until you are ready to enjoy them. Always remember to rinse your delicious berries quickly- do not soak them!

There you have it! A full reserve of the best berry selecting knowledge for the finest, freshest berries on earth!
